Beyond 5G Roadmap Workshop

The IEEE 5G Initiative will hold a Beyond 5G Roadmap Workshop on Wednesday, May 23 (8am-5pm) and Thursday, May 24 (8am-2pm) in Kansas City, Missouri, at the Westin Crown Center (1 East Pershing Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64108, 816.474.4400).

The IEEE 5G and Beyond Technology Roadmap will identify design drivers and challenges for technologies to simultaneously provide wireless communication, massive connectivity, the tactile internet, quality of service and network slicing.  The collaboration among the various roadmap teams will also identify technology enablers and potential solutions to evolve the Beyond 5G ecosystem.

Collaboration among all stakeholders in industry, academia, and standards development organizations to develop this roadmap can reduce some of the technical and engineering risk associated with the migration to Beyond 5G technologies. Exposure to such expertise and approaches will inform organizational strategies. Other roadmap collaboration benefits include, for example, stronger engagement with the network of experts from all sectors of the industry; alignment among operators, component manufacturers, suppliers, end-users, hardware device and testing companies towards common future goals throughout the Beyond 5G ecosystem; and an influence and input to standards, with individual organization engagement possibilities.

This roadmap workshop objective is to continue the work underway to produce the Beyond 5G Technology Roadmap.

On Day 1, Wednesday, May 23, each roadmap working group team will have opportunities to meet with their teams (and others working groups) to discuss their roadmap needs and challenges to evolve beyond 5G.  Teams include Standardization Building Blocks, Millimeter Wave, Hardware, Massive MIMO, Applications and Services, Edge Automation Platform, Security, Satellite, and Testbed.  On Day 2, Thursday, May 24, these working groups will present their progress.

The meeting will start in the Washington Ballroom at Westin Crown Center. The workshop is co-located with ICC 2018;  those attending ICC are welcomed to attend. Attendance is free.

5G Roadmap workshops  will also be available via Webex for those who cannot attend onsite.
